Meet CASA Volunteers Natalie Alonzo and Keenah Sims!
Natalie Alonzo
What caused you to get involved with CASA? I used to work with child sex trafficking victims, some of whom came from foster homes and had CASA advocates. I saw the incredible impact they made on the children’s lives and wanted to be a part of it!
What has been the most rewarding part of being a CASA volunteer? When the child I’m working with knows they matter because there’s someone on their side who believes them and will advocate for their very best life.
What’s your favorite way to connect with the children on your case? Games! We love to play Uno and other card games. It creates a safe atmosphere to do something fun together, while also talking about life’s difficulties.
Please share a special moment with us about your advocacy work with your the children on your case. The “win” is that moment you realize the child on your case trusts you and knows you’re going to do what you say you will. They’ve had so many people break promises to them in their life; I want to help each of the children I work with reinstate faith in relationships again.
If someone was considering becoming a CASA volunteer what would you tell them? Do it! As long as you’ve got love to give, there are children just waiting to receive it. Being a CASA volunteer will stretch you and you will learn a lot about yourself in the process. But what a beautiful thing to be a voice for those that may not feel they have a voice of their own.

What caused you to get involved with CASA? I saw a billboard and was like, “What's a CASA?” I looked it up and was immediately intimidated thinking I would be an emotional mess. Then I started volunteering with the small kids at my church and found they really like me, and I have a heart for their happiness and wellbeing. So, I prayed that God would give me the strength I need to be helpful, and He did.
What has been the most rewarding part of being a CASA volunteer? The baby on my case knows me and is excited and happy when he sees me. Being a consistent presence in his life is most rewarding to me.
What’s your favorite way to connect with the children on your case? Getting down on his level to interact with him and singing along with his favorite songs.
Please share a special moment with us about your advocacy work with your the children on your case. Attending his birthday party and seeing him happy interacting with his mother and foster family.
If someone was considering becoming a CASA volunteer what would you tell them? That this is good work and the few hours a month that you devote to the child on your case will be impactful to not only that child but also to yourself.
