CASA of Tarrant County Celebrates National Social Work Month, Honors Dedicated Staff
In recognition of National Social Work Month this March, CASA of Tarrant County proudly celebrates the compassionate, skilled, and committed social workers on staff who advocate every day for children in foster care.
Social workers play a critical role in protecting children, strengthening families, and navigating complex systems to ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive. At CASA of Tarrant County, staff social workers serve as the backbone of the organizatio: guiding volunteers, collaborating with community partners, and helping ensure that every child’s voice is heard in court.
“Tarrant County has the highest per capita rate of child abuse among large urban areas in Texas, which makes the work of our team more urgent than ever,” said Don Binnicker, CEO of CASA of Tarrant County. “Our social workers bring expertise, compassion, and unwavering commitment to children who need someone to stand up for their best interests.”
CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates®) of Tarrant County trains and supports community volunteers to advocate for children who have experienced abuse or neglect. These volunteers are supported every step of the way by professional staff—many of whom are trained social workers—who provide case oversight, resources, and guidance to ensure children receive the care and support they need.
One key approach is Collaborative Family Engagement (CFE), which focuses on identifying and strengthening lifelong support networks for children and their families. Through this model, CASA staff and volunteers work together with DFPS to connect children with caring adults—relatives, mentors, teachers, and community members—who can provide stability and support long after a case is closed.
“Our social workers understand that lasting change happens through connection,” said Binnicker. “By helping build strong, supportive networks around each child, we’re not just advocating for today, we’re helping create a foundation for their future.”
As the child welfare system continues to evolve through Community-Based Care, CASA of Tarrant County remains committed to collaboration, innovation, and a child-centered approach. While social workers lead this critical work, CASA reminds the community that anyone can make a difference. CASA volunteers play a vital role in advocating for children in foster care.
