This Fort Worth volunteer has advocated for foster children for over two decades

Fort Worth Report: A couple of years ago, Terry Slife didn’t know how difficult it was to find glasses for a 2-year-old — especially a pair covered by Medicaid.

But when a toddler fell into her care while she was volunteering at CASA of Tarrant County, that search became Slife’s responsibility. She spent a whole day looking for an eyewear retailer that would accept her client’s insurance.

The 63-year-old Fort Worth resident has shouldered several responsibilities as a CASA advocate. Over the last 24 years, Slife has taken on 40 cases for the nonprofit, serving as a resource for caseworkers, families, judges, lawyers and children in the foster system.

“I love the people. I love the families. I love the kids the most,” Slife said.
