Brian was afraid to shower in the locker room for fear that his coaches and teammates would see the bruising on his back and upper legs. Because of emotional distress and poor nutrition, he struck out at each game and eventually quit playing.
In 10th grade, Brian finally couldn’t stand the abuse anymore. He ran away from home, dropped out of school, and found himself living alone on the streets.
Brian was eventually picked up by the court system and placed in foster care – but he wasn’t forgotten. Brian was assigned a volunteer Advocate named Jeff. Jeff got to know Brian personally and worked hard to find Brian a home that would be the perfect fit.
Brian went back to high school, and with encouragement from his sports-loving foster dad combined with his foster mom’s delicious cooking, he could focus on his game again. He eventually became one of the top players on his team. He made new friends and was voted “Most Friendly” his senior year.
Brian is heading off to college soon, with plans to live in the dorms on campus with his best bud Paul.
