CASA of Tarrant County Names Ms. Julia Summers as next Executive Director

(FORT WORTH, TEXAS) Friday, January 6, 2012. CASA of Tarrant County announces that on the cusp of the retirement of Ms. Connie R. Brown, CFRE, current Executive Director of CASA of Tarrant County, CASA has named Julia Summers, as the next Executive Director. According to Ms. Brown, “It is my distinct pleasure to announce that Ms. Julia Summers will assume the role as the next Executive Director for CASA of Tarrant County.” Ms. Brown continues, “Julia is a Fort Worth native and comes to us with decades of experience in both the corporate and non-profit world. I believe that she is a perfect fit for our organization. She is a wonderful person, both capable and caring. She will be a tremendous asset to CASA of Tarrant County.”

Ian Peck, Board President, on the agency’s succession plan, “Three years ago, CASA’s Board of Directors asked Connie Brown to serve as our Executive Director. Connie promised to reenergize the agency and set and implement direction for growth with the goal of serving more children in our community. Over the last three years, our agency has served a record number of children. Connie made it clear from the outset that she planned to retire from her post as Executive Director after a few years and agreed to assist with a thoughtful and strategic succession plan when the time was right. That time has now come and we are thrilled with the addition of Julia Summers to the CASA team.”

With a long, rich history with CASA of Tarrant County Ms. Brown shares her feelings on her retirement, “It is with mixed emotions that I announce my retirement. For the past sixteen years, I have been a steadfast supporter of the critical mission of CASA of Tarrant County and that will not change!” Ms. Brown continues, “I simply will wear a different hat as a community supporter but promise to continue to participate in making sure that every child that needs a CASA has one!” Ms. Summers will begin her tenure in early January where she will work closely with Ms. Brown through the spring to ensure a seamless transition.

Julia Summers comes to CASA of Tarrant County as the former Vice President of Development for Camp Fire USA First Texas Council. In 2008 she was the recipient of Camp Fire USA's Jonathan Y. Ballard Award for volunteer service with administration and planning leadership. Julia spent 22 years at Pier 1 imports in various field management and corporate leadership roles, including Director of Pier 1 Kids stores and Director of Training and Communications. She holds a bachelor's degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in Social Rehabilitation Services and has done graduate work in professional counseling.
